Matt Jones
INSTRUCTOR
Matt was born and raised in Alaska and was the second oldest of eight children. Raised by a Marine Father and a Pioneering Mother in a log cabin far from the comforts of town, his upbringing and lifestyle promoted hard work, teaching and caring for his siblings. Matt began his fire career in 1989 as part of the Alaska Emergency Firefighter program working on pickup hand crews and would go on to help built two Interagency Hotshot Crews, spending more that a decade as Superintendent.
Matt is a qualified ICT3 and DIVS and currently works for the State of Kansas as a Fire Suppression Specialist.
For Matt the most satisfying aspect of working in fire is having been fortunate enough to be in the position to mentor and lead hundreds of firefighters. Building crews, teaching at academies, and developing core values and SOPs along with class room instruction is the highlight of Matt’s 30 year fire career and he looks forward to learning and instructing for many years to come.
